New Contest!

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Hey everyone, Steve here again. The recession has affected everyone and everything, including the production of Red Moon. We still expect it to be done this year so don’t worry. But right NOW we have a great new contest for you to enter!

During the course of Red Moon, many animals show up to help AND hinder Mox and Daeden in their travels. MANY animals.

And now your pet can be one of those animals! We’re offering the chance to have your pet be represented in Red Moon! Send us a pic along with a brief description as to why your pet should be in the book to redmoon.novel@yahoo.com Dave will pick a winner sometime in October and will draw your pet into Red Moon!

And don’t worry. Your pet will not turn into the evil villain, the bad guy, etc. Dave will represent your pet in a positive way.

Good Luck everyone!

Our Next Contest!

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

Hey everyone, Steve here ready to announce our next contest!

To build up interest in Red Moon, we’ve put out 3 flyers so far. We’ve mailed off plenty to comic book stores all over the place. Plus, we’ve had them on freebie tables at numerous comic conventions. Here’s some pics of the flyer at a couple of awesome comic books stores.

Alternate Reality Comics in Las Vegas, NV!

Bad Apple Comics in Orlando, FL!

We’re designing the latest flyer…and we need your help!

We’d like to know what it is that you like about anything Red Moon related because we’re gonna put fan quotes on the next flyer! If we use your quote, not only will your name and quote be on thousands of flyers, but Dave will sign one of the flyers, draw a little something on it for you and mail it off to you for free!

Your quotes can be a few simple words, or something longer. But please nothing larger then 3 sentences. At the end of Feb. we’ll pick 3 winners and their quotes will go on our new flyer!

Please leave your quotes in the blog comments or you can email them to redmoon.novel@yahoo.com

Good Luck!

Help find Scruffy!

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

Hey everyone, Steve here with your next contest. But first, let’s find out who won the spot to be in our next webcomic prequel. The winner is (drum roll)…Sean Caylor!

Congratulations to Sean! He’ll be immortalized forever…just like the Highlander! Keep an eye out for Sean in our next  prequel webcomic.

Ok, so the next contest is a little different then the other contests. The prize is different, but I think you’ll all like it anyway. How does $200 sound? That’s right, the next contest is for TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS! How do you win that cold, hard cash?

     You help find Scruffy!

Early on in Red Moon, Mox (who is given the name of “Scruffy” by his human family) runs away. Soon after, Mox’s family puts up some lost dog flyers in order to help find “Scruffy”. The flyer you see above will be making an appearance in Red Moon. So if you want, you can print out a flyer and actually have a prop from the graphic novel! But there IS that $200 you want to win, so you’re going to have to print out more, because…

For every picture you send us of the lost dog flyer hanging in a comic book shop, independent book store or anywhere you think comic book fans might be, you’ll be entered into the contest. We’d love some pictures of the flyer hanging in front of some famous locations. BE CREATIVE. And yes, I said “for every picture you send us”. So really, the number of times you want to enter this contest is up to you! The more places you hang the flyer up, the better the shot you have at winning that cash. So send us as many pics as you want. (1 picture per location) We’ll have a special blog here on there official site where we’ll feature all of the pictures that are sent in to us. After 2 months, we’ll put all of the names into a hat (one name for each time you send us a pic) and randomly pic the winner of the $200! So print out the flyer, help us get the word out on Red Moon and maybe win some money in the process!

To print the flyer, just right click on the flyer above and save it to your computer. Then, open up the pic, print it out and hang it up! Like at your local comic book shop, like this…(p.s.-don’t forget to ask them first!)

Tate's Comics in Lauderhill, FL

War and Pieces in Davie, FL

Then once you have your photos, send them to redmoon.novel@yahoo.com

Oh and btw-Don’t forget to check out www.ScruffyIsLost.com Something is a little weird in one of the pics on the site. ;) And while you’re there, email Scruffy’s family. Who knows? They might email you back!

Good luck in the contest!

The first contest winner and the second contest announcement!

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

Hey everyone, Steve here with the winner of the first contest and the announcement of our second contest!

We had a great response for the first contest. Hundreds of people entered to win the first ever printed copy of Red Moon. We threw all of the names into a hat and the winner of that book (to be personalized by artist/author David McAdoo) is…Kim Maher! Congratulations to Kim! She will get the first copy of Red Moon off of the printing press…ever!

So how do we top our first contest? How can we beat giving away our book for free? How about FOUR books? Our next contest is for a bundle of books all done by Red Moon’s artist/author, David McAdoo! If you win this next contest, you’ll not only get a free signed copy of Red Moon when it is released, but
you’ll also get a copy of…

The Dragon of Ord

The Dragon of Ord is a hard bound, short childrens book with two-tone pencil drawing illustrations that David wrote and drew when he was just 10 years old! At the age of 15, the book was published and David toured around the country speaking to kids in schools and libraries about his passion for art and writing. The book has everything! Dragons, spaceships, wizards, kings, barbarians, lasers and stolen treasure!

You’ll also get these two comic books…

The Last Soldier of 1--Sky (Issue 1)

The Last Soldier of 10-Sky (Issue 2)

The Last Soldier of 10-Sky is a 12 page, black and white mini comic that David recently wrote and illustrated. It’s the story of a soldier on a mission through the city of 10-Sky. On his journey he encounters unknown foes barring him from finishing his mission as well as allies that will help him discover the real truth behind his orders. Issues 1 and 2 are action packed featuring robots, giant creatures, a ravaged landscape and a unique armadillo-like lead character.

So how do you win all four books? Simple, if you want to win a free signed copy of Red Moon, along with David’s early work, The Dragon of Ord and the hard to find issues 1 and 2 of The Last Soldier of 10-Sky, all you have to do is send us an email at redmoon.novel@yahoo.com with the subject heading, SECOND CONTEST. That’s it! In one month (June 22nd) we’ll randomly pick a winner. And as always, you won’t be placed onto any mailing list and we won’t give your email out to anyone.

Good luck!

steve

Welcome to the first blog!

Monday, April 14th, 2008

Welcome! You’ve found your way to the very first blog for the graphic novel, “Red Moon”! The book isn’t coming out until early 2009, but by visiting/participating in this blog, you’ll get to see just how this groundbreaking graphic novel is being created. Our goal here is to bring fans of comic books, fantasy, sci-fi and just good old fashioned storytelling closer to the creative process. You’re going to get sneak peaks, inside info and…there will be contests! In fact, there’s an amazing contest for you to enter today! (but more on that in a bit)  This blog will be updated by author/artist of “Red Moon”, David McAdoo and producer Steve Kozak. Here’s David to tell you a little bit about his ideas and influences behind the book.         “Red Moon is really the culmination of several ideas I’ve had tumbling around in my head for years. The most important being our ability, or lack thereof, to communicate with animals. Animals give us signals all the time to our surroundings but we seem to misinterpret them or miss them altogether. Scientists are researching all the time on how to detect natural disasters in time to save lives, meanwhile hardly any animals died in the Sri Lanka tidal waves a few years back because all the free animals moved inland days before it hit. That sounds like a pretty good early warning system. Sure, we can teach dogs and other domesticated animals all kinds of tricks and duties to help the disabled, and we can teach Koko the gorilla sign language and have actual conversations with another species, but why can’t we define their communications to us? In Red Moon I wanted to show some of these same ideas and questions but from the animals’ perspective.         The story begins in the suburbs of the midwest but then literally spans the globe. Two dogs, Mox and Daeden, go on a cross-country journey meeting characters and villains at every turn. I’m a huge fan of taking a personal story and mounting it on a massive-scale background and trying to make it work. Stemming probably most rudimentarily from my love of the classic Greek myths and legends, some of the most epic stories ever told, but definitely and most notably from the story arcs of the comics and films of my childhood. Most obviously an influence on the Red Moon story is the two animated features “The Secret of NIMH” and “Watership Down”. Both epic tales in their own right, but more importantly to note is the seriousness they took with storylines and the “talking animal” sub-genre. It wasn’t until I recognized what impact those two movies had on me that I knew I could write something like “Red Moon”.         Hey everyone! This is Steve, the producer of “Red Moon”. David will be back in in future blogs with more insight into the ideas behind this fantastic story. But for now, we’d love to get some feedback on what you’d like to see. Do you want to hear more about the plot and characters? More drawings? What is it YOU’D like to see in these blogs? Perhaps some early production conceptual drawings like this one? Let us know!

And now…THE FIRST CONTEST!

And it’s a doozy! How great would it be if you had the very first copy of the graphic novel “300″ in your hands? What if you had the absolute, very first printed copy of “V for Vendetta”, “Stardust” or “Watchmen” in your possesion? We’re not talking the first edition. We’re talking FIRST BOOK EVER OFF OF THE PRINTING PRESS! It doesn’t get much more first than that! And what if the artist personalized that very first book just for you? Yeah, like that could ever happen. Well, now it can! This contest is for the absolute, very first printed book of “Red Moon” and artist/author David McAdoo will sign and personalize it just for you. You’re gonna have one hot book in your hands! Here’s how to enter: Just send an email to redmoon.novel@yahoo.com with the subject heading FIRST CONTEST. That’s it! Your email won’t be put on any spam list, we won’t give it to anyone else and you won’t be put onto any mailing list either. In one month (May 15th) we’ll print out all the email addressees, put them in a hat and pick a winner! So send us that email today for your chance to win! And don’t forget, leave us a comment on what you’d like to see in upcoming posts.See ya’ next blog! David and Steve
